We have received several calls today from concerned citizens about a scammer who is pretending to be a Weld County Sheriff’s Deputy. The caller states you have a warrant and if you want the warrant to go away you need to pay $1500.00 dollars.
The phone number that the scammer is calling from is 970-356-4015. This number does belong to the Weld County Sheriff’s Office but please keep in mind that scammers today have the technology to change phone numbers they are calling from. It’s known as a (Spoof Call) it’s a fraudulent practice in which communication is sent from an unknown sender (Scammer) source disguised as a source known to the receiver (Concerned Citizens). PLEASE DON’T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!!
The Weld County Sheriff’s Office will never try to resolve an arrest warrant over the phone by asking you to pay any amount of money. The Weld County Sheriff’s Office will also never accept payment in the form gift cards, pre-paid credit cards or any other type of credit through any store. Scammers may ask you to retrieve one of these items and give them the card number over the phone. Ask for the individual’s name, phone number and badge number; hang up and immediately call (970) 356-4015, option 1. Do not give any money to these individuals.
Anyone with information regarding this or any other crime is asked to call the Weld County Crime Tip Line at 970-304-6464 or Northern Colorado Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Tips can also be submitted through the Crime Stoppers website at www.crimeshurt.com. Those submitting tips through Crime Stoppers that lead to the arrest and filing of charges on a suspect(s) may be eligible for a cash reward of up to $2,000 from Crime Stoppers.
