A animal was recently collected in Windsor (Weld County) that did test positive for rabies. We want to remind citizens to take the appropriate safety and reporting precautions when dealing with any species at risk for carrying the rabies virus, especially BATS, SKUNKS, and RACCOONS.

1. When at all possible, these animals should never be handled.
2. If found in a dwelling or in cases where one of these species comes into physical contact with a human or domestic pet, please contact the Windsor Police Department at 970-674-6400 to make a report.
3. It is advisable to keep cats indoors and to always keep dogs on a leash when outside the home.
4. Please also remember to properly vaccinate household pets and remember that wild animals should be respected and never treated as pets.
